The European RCdiGREEN project seeks to establish a Spanish-French cross-border strategy to implement efficient management of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW), in which circular economy is the cornerstone of adaptation.

The CDW promotion has become a strategic objective of the administration and the construction industry in area of Navarre and Atlantic Pyrenees, due to their direct impact on economy. In this sense, the lack of raw materials, together with problems of opening new landfills and a strong regulations on exploitation of the extractive industry; and the growing of buildings rehabilitation, have had that the recovery of CDW is seen as a solution to these problems.

The construction industry is the main consumer of materials and of waste generation (more than 90%), which is a priority to be reduced for its volume, economic impact and material reuse. Therefore, taking into account European requirements, RCdiGREEN considers necessary to establish an efficient management strategy, which takes into account the circular economy pillars to improve climate change.

This strategy will address the sustainability needs (economic, social and environmental) in general, and the waste generated by existing buildings taking into account their life cycle, and the responsible design of "zero waste buildings" in particular.

Efficient Management of Construction and Demolition Waste

In order to address this situation, a strategy is planned for the valorisation of CDW that takes into account the real situation in both areas, as well as working to improve professionals qualifications and the safety, and a developing pilot experiences to validate this strategy. In addition, partnership will ensure  the sustainability measures through the signing of an agreement that includes the established strategic lines.

This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union through the Interreg Poctefa Program.
